For a start there’s lots of art to be seen in the Prado Museum, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, the Sofia National Art Centre Museum and the must-see Royal Palace of Madrid.
Check out the many parks and cafes and people-watch the locals in Plaza Mayor (Main Square), Parque del Buen Retiro (Retiro Park) and Parque Juan Carlos I. Children especially will enjoy the animals on show at the Faunia Parque Biológico (an environmental park).
Any self-respecting football fan will want to go on a Bernabau Stadium Tour or see Real Madrid play live if you're in the city at the right time for a match - and can get hold of a ticket.
Add plenty of shops and nightlife that kicks off at midnight and you can see that Madrid has plenty to offer to visitors.
